Resolution Runners Graduation 5k

By March 11, 2017January 10th, 2018#myFirst5k, RESOLUTION Runners

Congratulations to Run Harpenden novice runners who graduated in 5k today at Luton Wardown parkrun. The runners have been training for this special day since January when they started their beginners course from a standing start. In just 8 weeks, they have progressed from couch to 5k and they have all been bitten by the running bug. “I didn’t think I could ever be a runner and now we’ve all just run 5k!” said a beaming Tracy O’Brien at the finish.

Along the way, they had a very special flying coach visit from Mara Yamauchi, the UK’s second fastest female marathon runner of all time (2:23:12) and a two-time Olympian. Mara showed them important strength and conditioning exercises for runners and, during an informative Q&A session, gave valuable advice on how to motivate yourself to get out of the door and how to build up confidence. Even elite runners find it hard sometimes!

Run Harpenden founder & England Athletics coach Andy Jordan said, “I believe running changes lives for the better and is for everyone. Beginners often amaze themselves and it’s a real joy to cheer them across the finish line and share their happiness and laughter as they complete something that many thought impossible just a few weeks earlier.”

Many thanks to Luton Wardown parkrun who welcomed them so warmly, cheered them round and directed them to the clubhouse for well-earned tea and cake afterwards.

Run Harpenden is part of the England Athletics Run Together initiative, providing fun, friendly, supportive and inclusive running opportunities for everyone; from complete beginners onwards. For more information see https://runharpenden.run
